Minister Suharso : Relocation of IKN an Effort for Economic Equality

In his remarks, the Minister said, Bappenas is still in the process of carrying out its role as a clearing house to compile a list of major projects nationally, especially those located in East Kalimantan Province, such as the construction project for the New Capital City, the construction project for the B3 Waste Treatment Facility, the construction project and the development of an Oil Refinery , and the Palm Oil-Based Green Fuel Renewable Energy development project.
“Of course, in the preparation of this list of priority projects, we refer to the list of 2020-2024 RPJMN major projects located in East Kalimantan Province,” said the Minister.
As is well known, one of the strategic priority projects in East Kalimantan Province is the development of the National Capital City.
The Minister explained, the relocation of IKN to outside Java Island was based on efforts to equalize the economy and development to reduce the gap between Western Indonesia and Eastern Indonesia, as well as to reduce the burden on the Jakarta Metropolitan Area, Jabodetabek, Java Island and KBI which dominate the economy and share of development in Indonesia.
“IKN is expected to be one of the main drivers of the economic transformation strategy,” he said.
IKN is also believed to be able to provide many benefits, such as equal access throughout Indonesia, encouraging equitable development outside Java, reorienting development from Java-centric to Indonesia-centric, and building sustainable pilot cities, cities of the future that are in line with the principles and achievements. sustainable development targets or SDGs.
